Install with msiexec

For advanced automation of Insight installations, it is possible to extract .msi packages for Insight and the bundled third-party components from the delivered setup.exe file.

The following command extracts the msi packages for Insight, .NET Runtime, MSSQL Runtime, Sentinel Runtime and Crystal Runtime into temporary folders:

setup.exe /a"C:\temp\prereq_msi" /s /v"/qn TARGETDIR=\"C:\temp\inSight_msi\""

After extraction, the Insight msi package is located at C:\temp\inSight_msi. The packages for the bundled components are located in the subdirectory of C:\temp\prereq_msi. For every third-party component there is a subdirectory with a cryptic name, such as {AAAAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD-EEEEEEE}. You must explore these directories to recognize which component each represents.

The package for .NET Framework is named "ndpXY-web.exe".

The package for Crystal Runtime is named "CRRuntime_XXbit_nn_n_nn.msi".

The package for MS SQL OLEDB driver is named "msoledbsql.msi".

The installation of these components can be completed as described in the following sections. We recommend completing them in the listed order. Generally, the option /qn is used for a silent installation. For testing purposes, you can omit this option to run the installation with the same parameters interactively.

Installing .NET Runtime

On current Windows versions, the appropriate .NET Runtime is already installed so normally it is not necessary to install this again.

Installing MS SQL OLEDB Driver

The SQL Native Client Runtime msi package can be installed silently with the following command:

msiexec -i"msoledbsql.msi" /qn /log C:\temp\msoledbsql_install.log
Installing Crystal Runtime

Installing Crystal Runtime

Crystal Runtime is only required if it is used for report generation (rather than MS Reporting Services).

The Crystal Runtime msi package can be installed silently with the following command:

msiexec -i"CRRuntime_NNbit_XX_Y_ZZ.msii" /qn /log C:\temp\crystal_install.log

Installing Insight Client

To install the Insight SFA client silently with msiexec, use the following command:

msiexec /i "2020 inSight 12.0.0.msi" /qn IS_SQLSERVER_DATABASE="inSight_test" IS_SQLSERVER_SERVER="os-sql19" ADDLOCAL="inSight_Foundation,inSight_SFA,inSight_SFA_StartMenu_SC" /log "%temp%\inSight_install.log"

To install the Insight client and Inresponse without shortcuts and for all users, use the following command:

msiexec /i "2020 inSight 12.0.0.msi" /qn IS_SQLSERVER_DATABASE="inSight_test" IS_SQLSERVER_SERVER="os-sql19" ADDLOCAL="inSight_Foundation,inSight,inResponse" ALLUSERS="1" /log "%temp%\inSight_install.log"
