Rollout via Group Policy (GPO)

To deploy Insight on multiple machines by using a Group Policy in Windows, first extract the msi packages from the Insight setup.exe as described in Install with msiexec.

Because it is not possible to provide parameters for an msi package when deploying it through a Group Policy, you need to modify the default values of the Insight Client msi package. This can be done with the tool Orca. Orca is included in the Windows SDK from Microsoft ((https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/windows-sdk/). Download the Windows SDK ISO image, mount the image, and install Orca-x86_en-us.msi from the Installers subfolder. Then, complete the following steps:

  • Navigate to the folder where you have extracted the Insight Client msi package.
  • Point to the Insight msi package, right-click, and select Edit with Orca from the list.
  • In the list of tables, select Property.
  • Adjust the values for the predefined parameters LICENSESERVER, USETRUSTEDCONNECTION, and IS_SQLSERVER_DATABASE according to your environment.
  • Add a row for the parameter IS_SQLSERVER_SERVER with the appropriate value.
  • Add a row for the parameter ADDLOCAL, or other parameters you want to adjust.
  • Save the msi package and close Orca.

Now you can create a Group Policy to deploy the package (https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/816102/how-to-use-group-policy-to-remotely-install-software-in-windows-server).
