In order for a Visual Shop Floor Layout to be functional, you need to create Modes and Templates.
What is a mode?
Modes are a core component of the Visual Shop Floor. They determine which data is displayed on objects so that the functionality of the layout can work correctly.
What is a template?
Templates work in direct conjunction with modes to control data displayed for each object. Through Object Template Links, each mode references one or more templates that determine the data points pulled and rendered for a given object.
How do they work together?
The relationship between modes and templates ensures the right information is always displayed in the right context. Additionally, modes can define required user inputs — values that must be provided before the layout is rendered.
Once supplied, input values are passed through to each linked template, allowing the system to retrieve and display the precise data relevant to the user's selection. Together, modes and templates provide a flexible and dynamic framework for presenting meaningful, real-time information across the Visual Shop Floor.

To create a mode:

- Select Save.
- From the Parameters tab, select Add.
- Choose a Parameter from the grid and select Add.
Once the parameter has been added, you can customize it directly from the grid. Edit the fields on the form.
A green box will display over the fields once completed. The Required check box has to be checked in order for the field to work.
