Install Network License

The Insight software uses concurrent access management protection. To run Insight, you must install a network-based, software-based license manager on your network. Insight clients communicate with the license manager to ensure that only a valid number of Insight clients are simultaneously active.

Install the Insight License Manager

Notes: We recommend installing the license manager on a secured network server that is accessible whenever Insight needs to run. You will need the MAC address of the network adapter, the name of the server that the MAC address is bound to, and access to the Internet to synchronize the licenses.

  1. Log in to the console session of the server where you want to install the license manager.
  2. Navigate to Distribution Media > Server Tools > Licensing and click Setup.exe to run the setup wizard.
  3. After the setup is complete, open the Windows Services app. Select 2020 Insight - Apache Tomcat 9.0, Tomcat9 and 2020 Insight - FlexNet License Server and then click the Start Service button.
  4. Use a browser to open the following URL on the server:

    http://localhost:8080/flsm

This connects you to the FlexNet License Server Manager.

  5. On the License Server menu, click Login and then log in with the following information:
    Username: admin
    Password: !tempL0ck
Note: Username and Password are case-sensitive. The character 0 in the password is a zero. For information on changing the password, see Updating the License Manager Password.
  6. On the License Server menu, click Properties and confirm that the server host ID matches the expected MAC address. If not, select the correct information and save your changes.
If the License Server successfully communicated with the Cloud, the Feature Usage page will show all of the features downloaded.

How the license management controls concurrent access

When the number of running Insight clients or Inresponse services is within the number of licenses defined on the license manager, the user is able to launch the client or service. If starting another instance would exceed this limit, an error message will be displayed, and the client or service will not start.

If Insight cannot communicate with the license manager on the network, Insight cannot launch. If access to the license manager becomes unavailable while using Insight, Insight will close.

All system form and function Rights are associated with license manager features. Insight or Inresponse only allow access to system form or feature Rights when the associated feature is found on the license manager. For a list of features and Rights, see the System Module > System Modules tab in the System Configuration form in the Desktop Help file.
