Creating assets

Creating an asset lets users identify and track it across multiple plants or work centers. Once an asset is created, users can utilize the asset from within the Insight solution. It gives users visibility into its Status, Hierarchy, and Service Schedule, helping users manage the lifecycle of the asset.

The Asset Profile defines the characteristics of assets that can be common to many assets, such as make and model. It's recommended that a user create the asset profile before creating the asset, as this is a required field on the asset form.

When naming an asset, consistency can help identify the next numeric value to use in a series. An example of this would be using TRUCK- as the prefix of a vehicle type would easily allow you to search and sort to find the next number in the sequence to use. Typically, these end up printed on labels and affixed to the asset.

Where the Asset Code could be terse, the description field can be more verbose and contain information that may assist in searches. Keep in mind, assets could be moved around. Avoid using location as part of the description. Doing so, may create confusion if the asset is relocated but the description isn’t updated.

The optional field Serial Number can be helpful in cases where there is no physical asset tag, the asset tag has worn or is damaged, as it’s another way to identify the asset in the system.

Available Asset Types can be expanded by editing the [dbo.AssetTypes] database table. Asset Types can be helpful when creating dashboard components as they can be used to populate series data or can be used for filtering.

Once an asset is created, the Asset Tabs Panel will become available for use. This gives users access to additional forms that can be used to manage the asset.
